A thirteen-year-old boy describes the poverty and discontent of eighteenth century Osaka and the world of puppeteers in which he lives. The main character really grows up. Unpredictable and interesting.
Good book for discussing Japanese puppeteers and the famine. Daughter and I enjoyed it.
