This is a great book! I cant tell you all of the things I learned in this book. Phillips and friends explain turkey behavior which is very important to a newbie.* If you are experienced in turkey hunting, etc., this probably isnt for you. However, the rest of us can benefit from savvy hunters who reason out smart solutions.

Included are (b & w) photos, often explaining ideas/techniques. Sometimes Ive been surprised by some of the throw-away lines in this book; they are things Id never thought of or didnt realize the importance of related to turkey hunting. An example is: Why to Stay Put, p. 38. Phillips explains the times you want the turkey to come to you (instead of you chasing the turkey).

One of my favorite parts of the book is: The 10 Sins of Turkey Hunting. If you are in a situation where youve already committed one of these sins, he offers ways to minimize the damage. Two to mention: overcalling and being caught in a poor position. Do you know what to do?

The author readily admits that lots of turkeys are smarter than humans (NOW he tells us). However, he generally has a suggestion for handling a tough situation so the hunter can still haul home a turkey.

* newbie = someone who is new to a sport, etc.
