So often when I receive a RWAP book that is the excuse I have received. If a member gets an unpostable then for goodness sake DON'T repost it! I recceived a book with liquid damage and nasty brown stains all over it...I threw it away..unread..the member apologized, returned my credit and said they were sorry it did not meet my standards...but they received it that way. My feeling is If you would not want the book sent to you...then don't send it to another member.

Ugh don't you hate that excuse? I just respond with "then you should have marked received with a problem and asked for your credit back like I'm doing right now". |

That used to be the most annoying one to me. Now I hate "when I sent it, it was fine. The PO must have done it" when its obvious old, nasty damage. At least the "I got it that way"s are owning up to their actions. Last Edited on: 7/21/09 7:36 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

That one isn't the most annoying excuse to me, but I think it is the lamest:P My pick for most annoying is when they remind you that "this is a used bookswap!", you're unutterably picky, & should be buying your books new - because you have the nerve to turn up your nose at that "still readable" book their dog peed on:P |

If we all had to drink a shot of liquor every time some goober used that excuse we'd all be 3 sheets to the wind. |

LOL, Laura. In my one RWAP swap (so far), that was the sender's excuse to me. Ugh. It PO'd me big time. |

LOL Laura--unfortunately I'd still be stone cold sober since the last RWAP I had was in January and that was a "wrong book" thing. Before that, it was sometime in 2008 and it was a book damaged in transit. If I were an alcoholic depending on taking a shot of tequila every time I get a crappy excuse from a fellow PBSer about an RWAP. I'd be cured in no time. LOL Cheryl |

I agree, don't send a book you would not want to receive yourself. I also agree that if you want a book in EUC, then go buy it at a bookstore. I don't think of paperbacks as collectables....LOL That is what Hardbacks are for... |

Yeah, I think I've been told that one at least 3 times. I despise it! lol |

I recently received a book that looked like it had been dropped into a puddle and then dried out. The packaging was intact. Here is the PM exchange. It is one of three rude replied I've ever gotten when I marked a book RWAP. Sheryl (Momof2boys) → sender
The member that you shipped your book "TITLE" to has sent you this personal message.
Thank you for sending this book out so quickly--it got here really fast! However, there are distinct brown water stains along the bottoms of the pages, both front and back, although the stains are much more prominent in the back of the book. The pages are distinctly wrinkled from the water damage as well. Unfortunately, this makes a book unpostable by PBS guidelines. The following is quoted directly from the Help Center's Book Condition Guidelines: Overall Condition: No damage at all from water or other liquid Not soiled No stains The brown paper that the book was mailed in was undamaged and intact when the book arrived and had no staining. Because this book should not have been posted into the PBS system, and because I cannot repost it for credit, I kindly ask that you refund my credit for this transaction. Thank you.

I didnt notice any water stains on this book, as it was exactly as I received it from another PBS member. I guess when I receive books that are not exactly pristine or "book store brand new quality" that is what I expect from a swap. These are USED books. There was no smell to this book that would indicate wetness. To me it was just normal wear and tear. I will be glad to refund your credit since you apparently have interpreted the guidelines more stringently than I had. Sorry that you cant read and enjoy it in the present condition- I didnt know that we only swapped books for "reswapping" purposes. If that was the case than I guess I should have asked for credits on at least 40% of the books I have received.

Hi Sheryl |

Yeah, the whole thing was just preposterous. I didn't even reply--I figured she would just get nastier if I did. I just find it ironic that SHE lectured ME about how these are used books, and about how I interpret the guidelines more stringently. Uh yeah, when it says no water damage or stains, I interpret that to mean no water damage or stains! |

Sheryl, You know, I think some PBS members believe they do not have to follow the rules if they never bother to read them. Sorta like most politicians (grin). You dared to point out that she failed to do the bare minimum of playing by the actual rules (not the much-looser ones in her own head) -- so, of course, YOU are the bad one here. (NOT!) I received my first RWAP book today -- over 160 books received and I have not had to give a RWAP on any until now. This one had been obviously chewed on. She gave me my credit back, but got real p*ssy about it. At my wife's suggestion, I am NOT giving her any further response, as it has become clear that some people just must have the last word, even if that word is a lie. It gripes my hide to be accused of wrongdoing when I know I was in the right -- but sometimes, you just have to let it go, hard as it is. Oh, I added the RWAP-unpostable book to my list of unpostables that are available free with any order from our bookshelf. (You can see the list in my profile or in the Bargain Bazzar topic I started.)
