I've posted on the Romantic Times site, but I guess no one knows.   So maybe someone here can help me find this book.

I'm looking for the first romance novel I ever read, so it would be somewhere around 1985-1987.  I don't remember much about it.  I know it takes place in Texas, I want to say in the late 1800's.  He was a Texas Ranger, but if I remember correctly, he was looking to retire and just become a rancher.  I have no clue what the character's names where or how they got together.  They do end up married by at least the middle of the book.  I know she gets shot at one point in the shoulder.  I also remember that she leaves him, runs away or something, it's at the end of the book, and of course, the man goes after her.  I remember William Bonny was mentioned at one point when she ran away.  She's pregnant by the end of the book but doesn't realize that until her husband tells her.

That is all I remember.  I'm just feeling rather nostalgic and would love to read that book again.  I want to say it was a Zebra romance, but I might be mistaken.

My cousin gave me that book.  Now that I think of it, it was one that her parents would not have approved of at all, and I think she gave it to me so that she wouldn't get caught with it.  We were teenagers at the time.

For some reason this description reminded me of Lorraine Heath -- Parting Gifts.  Just a guess.

Thanks, but that one wasn't it.

I could always just go look in my parent's attic and maybe it would be up there.
