I decided to read all of the McNally's series and started with this one. A delightful book, humorous, with enough mystery to keep it interesting. Arch McNally is a real character...the other books will be fun reads, too.

From Library Journal: "Investigator Archy McNally agrees to handle a burglary case involving the theft of four valuable stamps for a Palm Beach society matron; from there he is led into a web of lies, sex, and blackmail. Murder is also involved, and Archy, who narrates the tale, has to sort out the scandal from the truth. A subplot involving Archy's affair with a beautiful antiques dealer may indicate his playboy days are over; he is suave and jaded but still capable of dropping names and bits of humor." "Glib, suave Archy McNally makes discreet investigations for the gentry of tony, decadent Palm Beach. This latest adventure begins with a stolen rare stamp, for which he searches through some skeleton-filled closets, including his own. But it hardly matters. For the reader, the delight of McNally's cases lies less in the plot than in the Dickensian characters he encounters (and beds), his banter with them, and his comments on them." I thought this was a great first book for McNally. I didn't start with this one, but I definitely would have gotten hooked with this one.

What can I say? Archie McNally is funny, witty, spoiled from Palm Beach.Son of a \"stiff upper lip\" conservative attorney who owns an old money law firm and hires his \"non-conforming\" son to do \"discreet inquiries. Then the fun begins. They are light, entertaining and addictive books, alas Sanders has passed, and the fellow trying to continue the series fails!

I wish I had been born into the role of Baby Sis McNally or Prescott McNally's little angel. Life would be exciting and oh so interesting. I love these series.

This author is new to me, and I didn't know what to expect. It has a tricky plot, unexpected do-gooders and do-badders, and a lot of people telling their own special versions of the truth. I didn't care much for the protagonist, Archie McNally, so I'll score it down a bit because of that.
