I have a big box of books and family pictures that I want to send to my aunt and was wondering if the pictures can go at the media mail rate.   Thanks.

No, only the books can go media mail rate. You're best off sending them in separate packages.

That's what I was thinking but wasn't entirely sure.  Thanks for your help.

Rebecca is correct.  My USPS staff once used photographs as an example of something that could look like a book (as stack of 4 x 6 pics in a PBS wrapper) but doesn't qualify as Media Mail.

From personal experience, the good news is that once I separated out the books and sent them Media Mail the rest of my mixed gift was much smaller and cheaper to mail by itself (under a different rate).
