Does it look "bad" for you as a member if you aren't able to meet a requestors condition?  I ask because I have had the same person request the same book from me stating that they are "not willing to receive books from people with dogs, cats or in a smoking environment".  So, I have of course had to decline because of the book being around a cat.  The first time I just stated "I have a cat."  This time I put:  "I have a cat and the requestor states they are not willing to receive books that have been around CATS.  This book has been requested by this person before."  I know for sure it has been twice, but this could be the third time - I am getting older!  I haven't had to turn down too many requests, but really wondered about this now that I know it has been like twice in 2 weeks.  Thanks in advance,

Jennifer

You are allowed to turn down requests with requestor conditions for any reason at all. Don't worry about your account looking bad for doing it.

that is odd that you keep getting the request from that person.  Only thing I can think of is that it gets moved to their RL and they put it back on their WL when you are the only copy.  I know when I have tried to order the same book that I was declined for because of RC there is a box that shows up in red saying that this person already said they can't meet your RC.

you can't put it on your WL if there's a copy in the system, even if it's a copy it won't allow you to order as that person has already turned down your RCs.

the only thing i can think of that would let the same person order the same book again is if the order gets accepted and cancelled rather than turned down from the RC screen.  ETA: or if the book was removed from the system and reposted, maybe that'd do it too.

Thanks for the info.  There are only 2 copies of this book in the system.  Not sure if I am number 1 or 2, but I am sure that this is the same person because of their specific conditions.  I just hate to keep turning them down, but I don't want to lose out on my credit cause they might sneeze from the kitty dander - she makes sure to rub up against anything she can!

You have the prerogative to turn down a request for any reason you choose to-

The books are yours and if you don't feel the requester will be completely happy with the your book , you should turn down the request.

This doesn't reflect badly on you at all -

I feel comfortable turning down a request if I have a feeling the requester will complain and give me a problem if the book is not pristine- I just don't want the hassle - I don't want to deal with picky, picky requests -

The request could be caught in a glitch loop.  It happens sometimes. It's not supposed to offer the request for that book to you again if you already turned them down once. But sometimes it happens if there's only 1 or 2 in the system.  The other person is probably turning them down too and so it keeps going back and forth.  If it keeps happening you can try contacting PBS and ask them to stop the cycle.

I've had that happen before also. Sometimes there is a glitch that allows it to keep being re-requested.
