Suddenly he found himself under water with the whole cargo of wood above him and he knew that his last hour was at hand. All of a sudden he saw a great bright light and in the glow of this light he clearly saw his whole family at home. Then he was lifted up from underneath the wood by a gigantic force and, clearly seen by some of the crew, he was placed on the port side of the ship which had now been righted. Just imagine the situation: he was in the water on the lee side, which means that the waves were rolling away from the ship. Therefore it could not have been a wave which lifted him back on board. No, he was put back on the ship against the direction of the wind and the furious waves.« less
