"A major work, one that well proves that her vigor, originalty and importance as a novelist is undiminished." -- Cleveland Press

This is the bizarre journal of a woman. The time is the Future. The setting, Modern Society, a nightmare of fouled-up telephones and broken-down buses, of scarce water, polluted air and adolescent gangs scavenging in deserted streets. The woman, guardian of a twelve-year-old child, is making her escape from the world of reality into the world of an imaginary past.

Great book. Another excellent female driven story by Lessing. Here a mother cares for her daughter in a post apocalyptic world. Quite bizarre and yet familiar at the same time.
