Memories Author:Florence Muse MEMORIES is a collection of prose and poetry divided into six sections: Memories...of God's World...of Spiritual Things...of Special Occasions...of Family and Friends...of World War II...of Love. — Florence Muse has been writing for twenty-five years. Some of her verses were composed when she was twelve years old. Others have been written in this... more » year of mounting warfare. The poet, in PRAYER - SPRING 1967, seeks solace in the cycle of natural life, praying for the gift to think clearly in this time of trouble:
Let my mind find clarity in the sky's blue;
Thoughts that match the flowers of May;
Oh Spring, that brings new life to Nature's world
Bring thou new life to me.
The poet intersperses passages of prose as evocative as her poetry. Thus, in SOUNDS she contrasts the soothing, eternal sounds of nature with the incessant sounds or noises of modern life:
...my heart is weary of the noisy sounds from man and man-made machines. I want to leave the automation of my household-the running of motors from the freezer - the washer - the furnace - and hear, instead, the fresh water as it runs over the pebbles in the stream....
In her Introduction the poet writes:
Memories are eternal
When the physical is gone they remain,
They live in the mind and spirit
To come to use again and again.
Florence Muse chooses themes that are eternal for her MEMORIES and what she has to say will live in the mind and spirit of the reader also returning again and again.
