This is the first book by Penelope Stokes that I've read, and after this one, I must read more of her stories. What a fantastic story.

However, the other members of my bookclub unanimously disagree. One couldn't even finish the book. They found the ghost scenario's flimsy, they thought it was a poorly written story, and they felt the protagonist was unlikeable. ....I felt completely the opposite...

It's all there in the 1920s-era "memory book" that Phoebe Lange finds in her grandmother's library--
birthday cards, party invitations, ticket stubs, snapshots and autographs, a note from a teacher, a graduation invitation...and a death certificate bearing Phoebe Lange's own name.
What do you do when you peer into a 75-year-old scrapbook and into your own future? How do you respond to the diary of a dead woman that tells the story of your own life?
This is the Crossings Book Club edition, and this is a truly remarkable read. Extremely moving and entrancing. You will want to read this one twice!

I enjoy all of Penelope J. Stokes books - she is just a great author. In this book a Memory Book is found dating to the 1920 era and has the main character's name - she finds herself going back in time as that person. Such a good book as all of her books are!

This was the first book I've read by this author, and I have to admit that I can't wait to read more by her. I enjoyed the mixture of searching for faith and suspense and the past/present theme. I could really identify with some aspects of the main character as far as wondering why God allows tragedies and struggling to find personal faith. I would have hoped for a different outcome for Phoebe's great aunt; having said that, however, the ending fit perfectly with the plot.

Phoebe Lange has it all--a Master's Degree, an adoring fiance, and a future with unlimited possibilities--but something is missing. Orphaned at age five and raised by her grandmother, Phoebe longs for a past and a sense of connectedness, but it is not until she stumbles upon a scrapbook dating back to the 1920's that she discovers a terrible secret about her family's history which triggers an identity crisis. Phoebe becomes obsessed with the mysterious ancestor, also named Phoebe Lange, whom she is convinced is the key to answering the questions that have plagued her. But the answers may not be what she has in mind.

The Memory Book follows a familiar Stokes formula: a modern woman finds spiritual guidance in the past. The heroine is Phoebe Lange, a likable professional who finishes graduate school and makes a long-overdue visit to her grandmother, who raised her. Phoebe then learns some surprising things: her father, who murdered her mother, is about to be paroled; and she had a great-aunt with the same name who died in a car crash on the night of her high-school graduation. In an Alice in Wonderland twist, Phoebe has a fall while reading her great-aunt's diary and drops back in time to live out her namesake's final days I loved this book ,didn't want it to end !!!!!

this is the 3rd book I have read by this author and I have loved every one. Penelope gets a chance to go back into the past, but can she change the future?

I didn't enjoy this book quite as much as the other ones I've read by Penelope Stokes, but it had an interesting story line.

Fast read. Have you ever wondered about a past relative and your connections with him or her? ...the similarities? ...or wanting to reach back and ask for advice?

Phoebe retreated to the home she grew up in to soul search, to try to come to terms with her own life. She finds her great-aunt's memory book and diary and is astounded on the similarities to her own life. She, also, learns of a family secret. In coming to terms with this secret and becoming acquainted with Great Aunt Phoebe, she finds herself and strength to do what she needs to.

There are strong Christian undertones but which could be adopted to whichever face of God you may believe in. This book brings up questions that we may all have encountered, like, "Where is God/dess NOW, when I need him/her most?"

Great read. It's really made me think in terms of my own life and challenges.
