All the Men Are Sleeping Stories
Author: D. R. MacDonald
In the tradition of great short-story writers like William Trevor, Alice Munro, and Russell Banks, a new collection by D. R. MacDonald, "a writer of heart-stopping beauty."--Alistair MacLeod The unrelenting ache of the loss of a child. The haunting touch of a person you have loved and betrayed. The hollow desolation of everyday life. With All...  more », D. R. MacDonald delivers a searing and muscular work. He deftly explores the misunderstandings between men and women, the nature of seduction and infidelity, the way geography shapes identity, and the heartache of longing--for home, family, and love. The mood is haunting, remarkable for its restrained passion and eloquence. Each of these stories stands alone, but together they offer a heartrending elegy for lost loves and time-forgotten places.

This is a collection of some excellent stories -- stories that ultimately surprise, stories that stay in your head long after you've finished reading.

Fans of Richard Ford, maybe Russo, too, will likely enjoy this book. It has an appealing literary quality, a quiet firmness, something to hold on to when the night seems to never end.
