James Jones, author of "The Thin Red Line" and other bestsellers, penned this biting social satire in the 1970s, about a decade after the events he fictionalizes actually occurred. He explores the explosion of social unrest that came to a violent head in Paris France in the month of May, 1968. During this time, France underwent a social and sexual revolution much like the one taking place in America during this decade. However, in Paris the revolt led to violence and insanity in the streets of one of the most beautiful cities in Europe.
Jones artfully tells the story of an American ex-patriot family living in Paris at the time, and the many temptations and degradations they endure. He chronicles the rise and fall of the Americans as they are taken down by both a seductive interloper--the beautiful black girl who seduces them all--and the crumbling of the entire society around them.
This book is a sharp, snappy look at vicious characters, eroding morals, illicit sex, and violence in Paris, 1968.
