Hi y'all! I haven't fallen off the face of the planet. But I've been a busy girl...

It all started with a temp job with the Census Bureau. Yeah, I was one of those people making sure everyone was counted. While doing that, our crew leader liked to communicate with everyone through text messaging. Since our family Sprint/Nextel acct recently added unlimited text messaging to our "features," I was okay with that.

OMG! I won't call myself a texting junky, but I do like being able to communicate at my convenience, not reaching to grab the phone before it goes to voice mail. I like being able to pick up msgs without having to call voice mail.

And after the job was over, I found myself wanting to play with technology again (see the "Tell Us Something We Don't Know About You" thread). I signed up for Twitter (because I can send/receive msgs via text on my cell phone). At first I just had news sent to my phone...

Now, twitter only allows posts that are 140 characters long. That's right. 140 characters. That's because it was designed to work with text messaging and text messages are limited to 160 characters including sender's name. As you can see, that's a hard row to hoe for me. And I ended up with a facebook acct. to link to when I had more to say.

After that, I decided to get back on to goodreads. Haven't been there in 2 years and I kinda missed friends there and posting reviews, etc. So I've been busy updating goodreads.

Lastly, I was reading a really good book but was distracted again and again by problems that should have been caught by a proofreader/copy editor. You know, like couples who undress twice in a single love scene. Or incorrect pronouns that computer grammar checkers don't catch (i.e., "He ran his fingers through this hair."). Or poor word choices (small town barmaid who thinks his jeans adhered to his butt - perhaps clung would have been more keeping with the character?). Anyway, I thought that maybe I could see if I could get work as a freelance proofreader/copy editor. To make a long story longer, I set up a blogsite.

Sooooooo, my metamorphosis is complete. In December, I was a techno-rebel, refusing to move into the new millenium. Now, my laptop is wireless. I text and twitter. I'm on facebook. I have a blog. *sigh* Oh, and I turned 50 last week. LOL

But of all the people I know online, I respect most the opinions of forum members here. So, will y'all check the blogs and the facebook wall and my goodreads profile and tell me what you think?

Colleen - I just sent you a friend request at FB. I just joined there last month and am so addicted it isn't funny. I'm mainly on the candle boards there but would love to find more book boards and book friends there.

Congratulations on coming of techno-age!!

Sorry, I'm not on twitter or facebook or goodreads.  I think my cell phone might send texts but I have no clue how to do that.  I barely remember to turn it on every few days to see if there are any messages there.

My laptop and netbook are wireless but I have a wired network at home for security reasons.  The wireless is great for when I'm on vacation though!

Welcome back Colleen- sounds like you have been busy!  Congrats on all of your new techno-hobbies!  I am fairly resistent to most of what you mentioned myself- I don't text, don't Twitter, and only recently got on FB, but only for my Etsy stuff.  I do blog, but again, related to my Etsy stuff.  Anyway, best of luck with all of that!

Oh, I did finally get a Goodreads account!  I am still adding books that I've read, and once I get all of that set up (and back from vacation) I want to get more involved in that.  Seems like a much better way of keeping track of books I've read than listing them in my profile here, which is what I've been doing!

WB Colleen. I sent you friend request for Goodreads. I don't do Twitter or Text. We have a FB, but my husband just uses it to look at pictures of our Grandbaby and that is it. My daughter has a Myspace and other than that we are pretty stoneage around here.

Hey, all! I've got Gail and Sherri added to my facebook friends, and Keri added to my goodreads friends. Thank you all for finding me in other online haunts!

Gail - you gotta get on goodreads to find some really great discussion groups that focus on a particular sub-genre or author. They're great!

Lesley - I can't find you on goodreads! Find me and invite me to be a friend, then look through my groups to find more like-minded friends.

Sarah - Don't worry about texting with your phone. That's the fluff. I still don't update my websites with my current location or twitter what I'm doing at this very moment. Not only is that boring, but it would read like this: "I'm reading. I'm playing on my 'puter. I'm refilling my coffee. I'm reading. I'm reading. I'm reading..." LOL

But I do encourage you to check out goodreads. Facebook is kinda weird unless you have friends who are on there. I'm still trying to figure out where things are posted and how to maintain my wall, etc. Goodreads is all about books, readers, and authors (author blogs feed to goodreads so you can keep current on their book giveaway contests and book announcements).

Just the other day, I followed a link in one of Shayla Black's blog posts and signed up for a chat on the Writerspace website. I ended up participating in a 3-hour chat with Cathie Linz, Stella Cameron, and Shayla Black. Very coo-wul! I learned about upcoming Shayla Black books... :-D

Colleen, I think my username on Goodreads is Lesley_H, though I've only logged in a couple of times so it hasn't made it's way into my long-term memory yet, so I can't be sure.  I'll see if I can figure out how to friend you there.

ETA, found you!  And replied to your message.  Thanks!
