I didn't enjoy this as much a Stephanie Plum novel, but a fun read just the same. Great for the beach or vacation. Engaging, but not much brain power required.

Wonderful first book in Janet's New series. Stars a great new female lead, a NASCAR driver, and the usual cast of wild characters. Very funny.

I think I had higher expectations of this book. I love Evanovich's Plum books and this book just isn't a Plum book. I tried not to let this sway my judgement of this book but over all it kind of did. I wasn't able to fully get into the characters or the storyline. I think this was my issue, however, not the storyteller. The repetitive referal to Sam as NASCAR Guy kind of irritated me but not enough to stop me from finishing this book. I think over all the book was decent and interesting enough for me to pick up the second in the series.

This is a high-octane misadventure with hot nights, high stakes, cold-blooded murder, and NASCA Guy. That about covers what a good novel needs. I've got the book, you add the chocolates and comfortaqble chair.

Stephanie Plum and Alexandra Barnaby are similar characters. I wish Janet Evanovich had tried a bit harder to make them different. At times during my reading I would forget that this wasn't Stephanie. Overall however a very good book with moments of laugh out laughs and on the edge of your seat suspense.

Another series, another sleuth for Janet Evanovich! I found this to be a fun-filled read that I completed in two days! Evanovich's writing is entertaining and humorous, the kind that takes your mind off the serious things in your life and offers an escape to another world, this time Florida and Cuba. Don't get me wrong, there are some intense times with bullets flying and you wonder if the characters are going to make it, but, in the end, Alex Barnaby prevails and I am looking foward to reading the sequel, Motor Mouth.

Alexandra (Barney) Barnaby worked in her father's garage during her school years and even drove a race car. She is now employed by an insurance company. After receiving a strange call from her brother with a woman'screams in the background she takes off for Miami to look for her brother.
There she meets "NASCAR Man" who drives for NASCAR and is also looking for her brother as he has taken off with his sixty-five foot Hatteras and sailed away. This becomes involved with Cubans and why they are looking for Barney's brother too.

This is a normal Evanovich book with funny, and implausible, situations. However, it is fun to read, and you want to keep turning the pages to see what happens next. As a dog ower, the scenes with the dog are sometimes quite hysterical.

A comic misadventure from the start, this mystery is a good combination of light thriller and fast-paced action. Alex Barnaby receives a late-night call from her brother that ends in mid-sentence with a woman screaming in the background. Being the dependable sister that she is, she catches the next flight down to Miami to find out what happened. Alex soon discovers that her brother has gone missing with a recent Cuban immigrant who may or may not know the location of a warhead and a fortune in gold. She cuts down the inept bad guys with her wit and a few well-placed accidental kicks and moves.

I was very disappointed in this book. The characters were all parallel to those in the Stephanie Plum series (only with less substance) and the humor was pretty much nonexistent. I grew a little bored at the end with the technical descriptions regarding the cannister. I became bored and lost among all the boat and car mechanical descriptions as well. In comparison to the Stephanie Plum series, this novel was overall more action-packed but lacked in fun and witty humor.

Alexandra Barnaby got the brains in her family. The little gray cells certainly bypassed Barneys younger brother, Wild Bill. Hes a pretty good boat captain but hes taken on a new job with his eyes conveniently closed. Before long, Bill goes missing, so Barney is dispatched to Florida with the bugs and the heat and the bad-hair-day humidity. Barneys thinking things cant get too much worse as she makes the rounds of South Beach, unemployed and sunburned, following her brothers trail of broken-hearted bimbos.

Too bad for Barney--shes wrong about the getting worse part. Enter Sam Hooker. Somebodys stolen his boat and the trail leads to--you guessed it--Wild Bill. Since Will Bill is missing, Hooker decides to follow Barney and see if she can lead him to his boat.

Dogs and cats never die in the world of Evanovich, and bad guys are almost always brought to justice. Sam Hooker and Alexandra Barnaby, in their quest to reclaim whats theirs, blast through Florida from Daytona straight on to Key West, exposing a plot to grab Cuban land and to lay waste the people involved. Cussing and tasteless sexual inneuendo included.

A laugh out loud, great read. I was sorry to finish it. I have enjoyed the Stephanie Plum series, but this stand alone story was even better!

"Just because I know how to change a guy's oil doesn't mean I want to spend the rest of my life on my back, staring up his undercarriage." From the word go, Evanovich delivers her usual goods, albeit in a different vehicle. After 10 Stephanie Plum novels, each more successful than the last, Evanovich introduces Alexandra Barnaby, aka Barney.

Barney hails from Baltimore rather than New Jersey, but she's from the same slice of working-class life as Stephanie; she donned mechanic's overalls in her father's garage during summer breaks from college. Her younger brother, Wild Bill, shares her passion for cars, and now he's disappeared from Miami, along with NASCAR star Sam Hooker's boat, the Happy Hooker.

Evanovich doesn't mind showing her romance roots, as Barney and Sam start off snarling at each other; as any reader can tell, they have to team up (a) to save Bill and (b) to enjoy delicious sex. As in the Plum books, plot takes a back seat to riffs, roughups and dialogueand in the last lies the book's most notable distinction. If Stephanie bids fair to be New Jersey's Dorothy Parker, Barney is Baltimore's echo of Robert Parker. Conversation is terse and coded, full of sexual innuendo, with a high premium on toss-away lines uttered under duress. Despite the amazing quantity of physical jeopardy, there's little tension; it's all about hanging out with Metro Girl and NASCAR Guywhich may be just what millions of Evanovich fans will want.

The first in a fun new series by Janet Evanovich. Alexandra Barnaby roars into the Miami Beach scene in hot pursuit of her missing baby brother "Wild" Bill. Leave it to the maverick of the family to get her involved with high speed car chases, a search for sunken treasure and Sam Hooker, a NASCAR driver who's good at revving a woman's engine. Engaged in a dedly race, Bill has borrowed Hooker's boat and sailed off into the sunset, just when Hook has plans forthe boat. Hooker figures he'll attached himself to Alexandra and may run into scumbag Bill, and better yet, maybe he'll get lucky in love with Bill's sweetie pie sister.

If this was taking place in New Jersey you'd be looking for Stephanie Plum and her cast of crazies. Not to worry, Evanovich has supplied a new cast of characters guaranteed to delight.

I think this is the first book I read by Janet Evanovich. I thought it was funny in spots, but I wondered about the situations the characters get into. Yes, I know it's fiction, but a little too over the top in some parts. When I got the next in this series, Motor Mouth, I couldn't even finish reading it because it was so ridiculous.

This was my first Evanovich read and I LOVED it.I promptly went out and started reading the Plum series. This was one of my favorite books I have read in a very long time. Great, quick, fun, funny, fast moving, action-packed book. I thoroughly enjoyed it and cannot wait for the second book to be released!

Not her best. The story was her usual fun, witty style but the characters weren't quite as wacky.

Similar to Stephanie Plum books. Almost as funny but still a great read. Alexandra Barnaby goes in search of her brother who disappeared after a mysterious phone call. Things just get hairier after that.
There are a couple of colorful characters in this book also.
Janet Evanovich is a great writer!

This book reminds me of a Clive Cussler book- if Dirk Pitt were a girl! I liked it a lot. It has a little of the charactor of the heroine from the One for the Money series too. A fun read!

From Publishers Weekly: "Just because I know how to change a guy's oil doesn't mean I want to spend the rest of my life on my back, staring up his undercarriage." Barney hails from Baltimore rather than New Jersey, but she's from the same slice of working-class life as Stephanie; she donned mechanic's overalls in her father's garage during summer breaks from college. Conversation is terse and coded, full of sexual innuendo, with a high premium on toss-away lines uttered under duress..." Copyright © Reed Business Information

A quick and satisfying read. Some of the characters' actions are a little unbelievable and there are a couple of coincidences that seem a little too convenient...but these are forgivable flaws because the story is so engaging and the characters are really likeable and fun.

I read this after reading the Stephanie Plum series, and I found that this book follows the same formula...romance, crazy comical plots, funny secondary characters, and a horny male main character. I don't have a problem with this at all. In fact, this formula works great in the Stephanie Plum series, but I wasn't too crazy about it in this book. It was alright, but maybe I'm just too stuck on my Jersey girl (like me) Stephanie and her hot men, lol.

Alexandra (Barney) Barnaby roars onto the Miami Beach scene in hot pursuit of her missing baby brother, "Wild" Bill. Leave it to the maverick of the family to get Barney involved with Sam Hooker, a NASCAR driver who's good at revving a woman's engine.

Engaged in a deadly race, Bill has "borrowed" Hooker's sixty-five-foot Hatteras and sailed off into the sunset...just when Hooker has plans for the boat.

The pedal will have to go to metal if Barney and Hooker want to be the first to cross the finish line, save Bill, Hooker's boat...and maybe the world.

Buckle your seat belts. Number one New York Times bestselling author, Janet Evanovich, is moving into the fast lane with Metro Girl, a thrilling, high-octane misadventure with high stakes, hot nights, cold-blooded murder, sunken treasure, a woman with a chassis built for speed, and one very good, very sexy NASCAR driver whos along for the ride.

"Wild" Bill Barnaby's dropped off the face of the earth and big sister Alex heads for Miami, Bill's last known sighting, on a harrowing hunt to save her brother ... and maybe the world. Truth is, Alex has been bailing her brother out of trouble since they were kids. Not that Bill's a bad sort. More that he acts first and thinks later. Unfortunately, this time around, Wild Bill will be Dead Bill if Alex doesn't find him in time.

Alex blasts through the bars of South Beach and points her search to Key West and Cuba, laying waste to Miami hit men, dodging Palmetto bugs big enough to eat her alive, and putting the pedal to the metal with NASCAR driver Sam Hooker.

Engaged in a deadly race, Wild Bill's "borrowed" Hooker's sixty-five foot Hatteras and sailed off into the sunset ... just when Hooker has plans for the boat. Hooker figures he'll attach himself to Alex and maybe run into Bill. Maybe Hooker can salvage what's left of his vacation. And maybe Hooker'll get lucky in love with Bill's sweetie pie sister. After all, Hooker is NASCAR Guy. And NASCAR Guy is good at revving a womans engine.

The race to the finish is hot and hard, taking Alex and Hooker into international waters, exposing a plot to grab Cuban gold and a sinister relic of the Cuban missile crises. Creative cussing and sexual innuendo included.
