This book gives a wonderful picture of what it was like to grow up a Muslim girl in what is now Bangladesh. Reading of the fanatical religious practices her mother indulged in as her only source of happiness, the beatings by her physician father, who was obsessed with education, and the general unfairness with which girls were treated, one is happy to know that in the end, the girl grew up to be a physician and a writer who has received many awards. She has been living in exile since 1994.
Interesting account of a Muslim childhood during the partition of India and Pakistan during the 1960's and 70's. The author tells the story of her life and that of her family.
