This is an amazing book about an incredible journey. The fortitude and determination to finish the journey even when things were tougher than anything I would put myself through was mind boggling. A must read for anyone who likes adventure travel or bicycle touring.

I love this book, hearing about their struggles as they start off cycling across the U.S., then the variety of cultures and customs they encounter overseas. The author died shortly after the book was completed.

This book about a bike journey around the world is made very poignant by the fact that Barbara Savage was killed in a bicycling accident as the book was going to press. So as one reads of her harrowing misses by traffic on the roads of Egypt or Thailand or even the U.S., there is a sense of sadness that one day the worst would indeed happen.

Aside from this poignancy, the book is a frank tale of both the joys and trials of living with only what one can carry on a bike. Savage and her husband do spend blissful weeks on pristine beaches. But the stories of their sometimes hand-to-mouth existence as far as finding food and water, the tales of the absolute filth they had to endure, and the rather unappealing specter of being crushed by moving vehicles at nearly every turn certainly disabuses this endeavor of all romance. I know that for myself, Ive removed bike around the world off my Bucket List.

Savage imbues the tale with pathos, humor, and honesty. It deserves a read as a travel adventure.

This was a really good book-- the couple biked thru the US, Canada, Europe including Great Britain, Egypt, Nepal, India, New Zealand and Tahiti under some very grueling conditions. Amazing adventures and amazing people and what a way to experience different cultures. Unfortunately the author died in a biking accident soon after finishing this book.

A must read should you enjoy travel, bicycles or both. Barbara Savage takes us along on a seemingly impossible bicycle trek with her and her husband through the hot dry desserts of Morocco and the beauty and grandeur of New Zealand. Even an unfortunate road rage occurrence on a Florida highway. All the while she keeps us interested in her journey and the people that come into contact with her and her husband on an exciting once in a lifetime trip to experience life and not just live it. Barbara Savage left me wanting more.

I loved this book. So many adventures, some mishaps, many friends and exciting times. To think someone would bicycle for two years was incredible. I found it very hard to put down.

I put off reading this one for a long time when I read that the author had been killed riding her bicycle in California after her trip was completed. However, I am glad I took time to read it. The story is fascinating. Don't think I could have handled biking in Egypt or India. Too many people, too many crazy drivers and too much dysentery. Perhaps, much has changed now but many of the areas where Barb and Larry Savage biked must still be the same. Imagine having people throwing rocks, clumps of dirt and animal piles at you or giving lewd remarks and looks at your wife. Imagine being chewed on by mosquitoes much of the time, bed bugs on others or fleas. The people and the scenery seemed to make it all worthwhile and the experiences the couple have are of the type that is never forgotten.
