I have the 3 books  (The Girl Who.......  ) on my WL and just got offered the third one first.  Should I read them in order?

FYI:  My 10 year old nephew is being flown to Europe to audition for a part in the next film!

You kind of have to read them in order. The third book picks up where the second leaves off. Also, the second book makes a lot of references to what happens in the first.

OH, yes. Read in order and one right after the other.

I just fininished the first one and have the second ready on my Kindle. I loved it but will take a short break because it is hard on my eyes to read a book that is so hard to put down. Also my cat and boyfriend are acting neglected. Looking forward to savoring the other two. Tell us more about your nephew.

Yup, In order, and don't give up on TGWTDT; it starts sloooooow, but finishes nicely.

I am struggling with the 3rd book!  I almost quit during the 1st one but ended up enjoying it.  I read the 2nd right after that.  Then I took a break, and now I am listening to the 3rd.  At first I thought listening was great, helps with the name, but I am on chapter 6 and I am thinking about just watching the movie!  (I have seen the other 2 movies)  Can anyone tell me if #3 will pick up?  Right now this going back into details from 1970 is killing me!

Margaret - The third book is very, very talky. I've been active in several forums for discussing Larsson and it's nigh-universally agreed that the third book is very legal-oriented and very talky. I personally ended up liking the book more than the movie (there were a few slight changes that bothered me, particularly when it came to the movie's treatment of the very last scene), so I'd recommend sticking it out. If you really can't, though, the movie is still very good.

To the OP - definitely read them in order! It gives a fuller picture of Lisbeth's character if you do, and as others have said, the third book picks up from the second one. The second one also has spoilers for the outcome of the first book's mystery, just as the third book has spoilers for the twist of the second. And best of luck to your nephew! That's wonderful!

Definitely in order!  The third picks up where the second ended.  I have yet to read the whole third book (just a sample) but I've liked it so far.  First one was slow to get going but worth your while.

Well I got half way in the 3rd, set it down today and drove to Redbox.  I feel asleep trying to watch the movie but eventally watched it.  I am sure the book would have been better, but I got my questions answered and that was enough for me.  I really loved the 1st one, enjoyed the 2nd, but lost interest in the 3rd.

ETA - I did go back and read the last few chapters after watching the movie, since they often change the endings, and I am glad I did.
