Another from my "reading Del Rey Discovery" project. This was an entertaining sci-fi tale. After an elder member of their family passes away, a family-run trader ship is desperate for a new pilot. And on a backwater outpost, there's a pilot who's desperate for a job...
The family takes him on, and once he cleans up a bit, the current 'captain' begins to find him very attractive. Plus, he seems really talented. But why did he get fired from his last job, and from his military position before that? What's behind his mental distress?
There's been a cover-up, and disturbing facts begin to come to light - but a bold-enough family might be able to turn a seeming disaster into a commercial advantage.
Good enough that I'll read the sequel, but not a best-of-all-time.
