Why does every writer of a certain age (I assume they all grew up in the NY area) have to write about finding meaning for their inconsequential lives in 1950s New York baseball? Those teams won every freakin' pennant in that decade, not to mention most before and after that. How about you A's fans, you Tigers' fans, you Senators' fans (oh, I forgot, "Damn Yankees")or the Reds' fans? Other teams just seem to be a punching bag for smug East Coast writers.
