I met Jim May years ago while I was working in a health food store. He gave me this book and is a phenomenal person who has campaigned against the artificial sweetener companies for years to no avail. Equal (owned by Monsanto) has been his biggest adversary downplaying the extensive research and horrendous effects artificial sweeteners have on the human brain. He predicted that one day the big guys would smarten up and switch sides and get the FDA to approve Stevia, and then jump on the boat and more than likely put him out of business. His story is really interesting.
He told me a young man working for the Peace Corps brought him a Stevia leaf urging him to check into it. This young man told him how the tribes he worked with in Paraguay would use the leaf not only to sweeten things but for medicinal purposes. At the time, Jim worked in the medical industry and suffered terribly from allergies. This young man finally convinced him to check it out for himself. He took a trip, and upon meeting the Guarani people, they brought him a gourde of tea with herbs, which they sipped through a bombilla (bamboo straw with a strainer attached). Jim said his allergies had been so bad at home that he had to have injections regularly to control them. His allergies disappeared on this trip and since he developed his Wisdom of the Ancient Teas, he no longer struggles with them. The healing properties in these teas are fabulous. I have used them and sold them for years in the store where I worked. They all contain stevia, but also several other healing herbs that can stop a cold or cut the duration. Great book, great man, and great company.
