The charm of this book built slowly but by the end I was tearing through the pages to get to the end and find out what happens. While this was written in the 1990s, the primary action takes place in early 1930s rural England and the book accurately conveys that period and feels like it was written then -- it reads like an Angela Thirkell novel. It is a very witty piece of fiction and a real delight.
