Modal Analysis of the Prototype Heavy Composite Hull
Modal Analysis of the Prototype Heavy Composite Hull Author:Morris Berman This is a ARMY RESEARCH LAB ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND MD report procured by the Pentagon and made available for public release. It has been reproduced in the best form available to the Pentagon. It is not spiral-bound, but rather assembled with Velobinding in a soft, white linen cover. The Storming Media report number is A750833. The abstract prov... more »ided by the Pentagon follows: A modal analysis was performed on the heavy composite hull (HCH). The object of this experiment was to provide structural dynamic information to be used to validate a finite element model. The experimental model was also used to update the finite element model, as well as to provide damping information. This report details the analysis performed on the HCH in two configuration. The first configuration utilized excitation by four shakers placed at the comers of the floor. The second configuration also utilized four shakers, but two were placed on the roof in an attempt to excite local modes. The first elastic mode of the HCH was observed at 36.1 Hz (0.425% critical damping). Modes up to 100 Hz were analyzed for this report. This report describes the characteristics of the extracted modes.« less
