Although kind of dry when reading, if you are a Ben Franklin history buff, this book is for you. It makes you wonder how much isn't told by Mr. Franklin on his liasons with the ladies of Paris.

Published in 1966 but excellent research and well written. There are formal portraits of various ladies. The author concludes that BF was not 'saintly' as his French admirers maintained but that he certainly deserved these lighter moments of dalliance, given the dire straits of the U.S. There is a good chronology, index, and footnotes, plus a discussion of the her sources. She benfited from the Yale project to obtain copies of all BF's writings that began in 1954. She explains that he left a mountain of paper to his grandson but much had been given away, stored in barns, etc. in the 19th C.
In a letter Mr. Franklin said he preferred women of a certain age because they were so grateful.
