Warning - don't get this book confused with one of the same title by Robin Cook. You're probably aware that most authors usually excell at a particular part of a story - be it character development, location descriptions, dialog, or story line. Rarely does an author succeed at all levels of writing, but in this book, I think Greg Iles does! Iles is an effective writer who grabs your attention at the very beginning and keeps you hanging on through the entire audio. The characters he has developed have very complex lives that revolve around a plot line that grows in complexity as the story unfolds. This audio/book has a great storyline filled with a multitude of plot "bombs" that are planted throughout the story, and you can't wait for the explosions. There is a well done love triangle in this novel, and the chatroom dialog is something you don't want to miss. Of course, there is a "serial killer" in this book, but, he is not your average "capture, torture, mutilate" slug of society. Another area where I thought Iles excelled was in his knowledge of computers and the technology behind them - he amazed me with some of his events, now, I don't know if he really has this knowledge, or if he just did a great job of researching this book. Either way, it adds to the book immensly, and creates a believable and very realistic background. OK, I'll admit - there is very little in this book that you would call socially redeeming, but it IS a very "smart" thriller for those seeking a little "escape" from the realities of everyday life, if for only a little while. Enjoy! Wiley Coyote
