One of Catherine Cookson's better historical romances. Set at the turn of the last century. Well drawn characters and romance without the tawdry or the mawkish. Addresses the changing attitudes toward the class system in Great Britain as WWI looms on the horizon. A working man and a "ladyship" lumbered with a failing estate explore the possibilities of bucking the system.

The website summary is incorrect. The Moth is one of Catherine Cookson's best historical novels. Set in the years leading up to WWI, Cookson explores the changing attitudes toward the British class system. A skilled carpenter working as a laborer and a 'ladyship' cumbered with a failing estate fall in love when faced with co-existing need. Think of the old song "If I were a carpenter and you were a lady, would you marry me anyway?"
