I loved this suspenseful tale of Homicide Inspector Kate Gillespie's hunt for a killer who is murdering young women. When her partner, Sam Scolari, finds that his ex-wife is the killer's next victim, he goes into hiding for fear of being the suspect, and that leaves Kate alone to find the real killer and prove the guilt or innocence of Sam. Add in Mike Torrance, an IA officer, and Kate becomes watched not only by him, but by the killer.
Burcell is a cop herself, and that makes her writing rich with detail and expertise on the subject. I loved the suspense and not knowing until the end who the real culprit turned out to be.

A real page turner
Kate Gillispie, either really lucky or really unlucky. Either way you always cheer for her.
This is the first Purcell book I've read and it won't be my last. Great intrigue, a bit of romance, lots of police procedural. And, best of all, a believable heroine who understands about fitting in to the "good old boy" network.
Suprisingly good read. I couldn't put it down!
