Usual Straub, very hard to follow though. Not one of MY favorites of his ghost stories but maybe yours!

A very odd book. Dark. Interesting but I'm still not sure if I "liked" it or not. LOL..........I know, does that make sense. Standish is invited to spend some time doing research in England on an ancestor of his at a place called Esswood. The owners used to have a kind of retreat for writers and a lot of very prestigious people stayed there. Isobel's writings took a totally different bend after staying there. Over time she quit writing and finally returned to Esswood, where she died. Standish has a very pregnant wife. They have had issues within their marriage in the past but he leaves her home alone to visit Esswood. What he finds there is.......odd. Very hard to describe. This book is illustrated.
