Since it first appeared in print in 1901, this timeless story has been cherished by generations, young and old alike.
The Cabbage patch, where ramshackle cottages play hopscotch with the railroad tracks, is the setting for a touching tale of a poor family that lives by a simple truth-goodness and kindness are the true riches of life.

Great story, unforgettable characters, marvelous lessons, and wit. Re-reading it as an adult, fifty years after hearing Mother read it aloud, I realize why she would laugh even harder than we did.
