Colin Johnson or Mudrooroo (born 1938) is an Australian author and poet known for his work involving Australian Aborigines. He is often considered the father of modern Aboriginal literature.
Johnson was born in Western Australia. After researching his family tree, Mudrooroo was shown not to be an indigenous Australian, but descended from a runaway Afro-American slave who had arrived in the colony of New South Wales in the 1860s.
