The Mule Deer of Wyoming Author:Wyoming Game and Fish Department staff This book is not a treatise on how to hunt deer, per se. Granted there are some generalizations about the habits and weaknesses of mule deer, but that is as far as any how-to-hunt advice goes. — There is, within these covers, information on the distribution of mule deer over the state, movements of herds, estimated herd unit populations along wi... more »th the optimum desired numbers of deer within those units and the latest harvest figures for each unit.
There is also information on habitat, the flora of each area, terrain (elevations, landmark, "lay of the land"), some history of each management unit, as well as limited and generalized information on land status.
By studying some of these statistics and bits of information, the shrewd hunter can pretty well put together his own hunting scenario for his chosen area. This same hunter will remember that no advanced plan can replace on-the-spot observation and reconnoitering of the area.
But this modest volume was not written just for the prospective hunter. It is hoped that naturalists, students and concerned citizens will find within these pages useful information and food for thought.« less
