I love Daisy Dalrymple if only for her name! Her name is what drew me to the books, however, Daisy is delightful, charming and very intelligent. And she is crazy about Detective Chief Inspector Alec Fletcher of Scotland Yard. She is on the way to Scotland for an assignment for the magazine she works for, on the famous express train, the Flying Scotsman, when she discovers that Belinda Fletcher, Alec's daughter from his first marriage (he's a widower), has stowed away. She takes her in hand, buys her ticket and tries to figure out what to say to Belinda's Grandma by telegram. Belinda has run away from home because her Grandmother refused to let her go to a classmate's house that happens to be from India. This time instead of Daisy finding the dead body, Belinda does. It gets more complicated and Daisy asks them to bring in Alec to investigate since he is in the north of England, anyway. He and Sgt. Tom Tring and Constable Ernie Piper arrive to find Daisy has already discovered a lot of knowledge of the case.

I enjoy this series. It takes place in the 1920's, shortly after the Great War and things are changing. The author has a charming character in Daisy and other engaging characters as well. I'm looking forward to read the next book. I highly recommend this book and series for a pleasant getaway in your mind.
