This is a fascinating look at Elizabethan England and Queen Elizabeth's royal household before she became Queen. This book takes place while her sister Mary is still Queen and Mary is purging Protestants in her effort to restore Catholicism as the only religion in England. Princess Elizabeth's household is under suspicion of heresy and thus treason. Elizabeth's musician, young Kate Haywood, is chosen by the Princess to track down a murderer. Very good read.
