Following up the mega-hit (well, it was REALLY popular with cozy mystery lovers--won a prize) Murder with Peacocks, here we find our lovable, sensible Meg Lanslow again surrounded by her weird but nice family. We learn about puffins (another type of bird native to Maine, apparently) while Meg and lover Michael try to solve a murder on a small resort island. Surely her dad didn't do it!

This one is probably the second weakest in the series (after Parrots), but it's well worth reading to keep up to date on Meg, Michael, and the other zanies in her family.

If you haven't read this series, get Murder with Peacocks, read it, then gather up the rest of the series and have a great time. I envy you the pleasure of discovering these wonderful books.

Great book - I have all of her books in this series and they are my "go-to" books when I need a pick me up. Donna Andrews sense of humor is fantastic, just up my alley.

Poor Meg Langslow has the week end from Hell when she and her SO go to Monhegan Island to get away from it all. A hurricane hits and to complicate things a murder occurs and there is no way to get help until the storm passes.

The 2nd Meg Langslow murder mystery - Meg and new boyfriend, Michael, take to the water to get away from her family for a "quiet" romantic weekend in Maine. Turns out that her family has decided to use the secluded cabin themselves and surprise Meg and Michael. In the meantime, the island plays host to a flock of birdwatchers and, lo and behold, a murder of an unsavory neighbor takes place. The books recounts all the ways Meg and Michael try to solve the murder along with her dad, who goes missing for a few days and is considered to be a likely suspect.

I enjoyed this book, but now that I know the antics of Meg's family, it wasn't quite as funny as the first one. But still, a fun read!

Second in the series and as wacky and fun as the first. I really like the character of Meg. she's strong, daring, smart and funny. Her budding romance with Michael plays well, as does her relationships with her wacky family. A decent mystery that's lots of fun.

Though I really liked this book alot, I didn’t think it was quite as good as the first one, Murder with Peacocks. A little less drama and suspense than the first and fourth one, but still strong on charm and wittiness. That said, I’m really liking the way this author writes though and looking forward to book 3 of the Meg Lanslow mysteries, Revenge of the Wrought-Iron Flamingos which is on it’s way to me through PaperBackSwap.

Who knew so many things could happen on a quiet Maine island. Meg's family seem to follow her everywhere. I didn't enjoy this as much as Revenge of the Wrought Iron Flamingos, but it had some amusing moments.

I didn't care for the author's writing style. I found the characters shallow, and gave up on the story before the end. I just didn't care who-done-it.

I didn't think this was as funny as "Murder with Peacocks" but I still enjoyed it. Gosh, Michael sounds like such a GREAT guy!! This was a good read. The family sure is kooky, but you can't help but like them. Will definitely be reading the others in this series.

This series is a delightful read! If you like the zaniness of Janet Evanovich, check this out. The heroine, Meg, seems to be th only sane one in her eccentric family...who follow her with mystery and mayhem.

Meg plans a romantic getaway with her boyfriend in her aunt's cabin, on an island off the coast of Maine. But when they get there, her family is there. And the island is crowded with birdwatchers. (It's the "flyover" season. Then a body is found and Meg's father is accused of murder.

After enjoying the first book so much I found this one annoying. Meg is so bossy and the weather is so nasty that I don't know why Michael doesn't swim off the island. A big disappointment after really enjoying the first book.
I will read the third book because I have it. I hope it is better.

Meg and Michael are planning a romantic getaway to Aunt Phoebe's cottage. It doesn't turn out exactly as they had planned. First there is Hurricane Gladys, then Aunt Phoebe, Mrs. Fenniman, Meg's brother Rob and Meg's newly remarried parents all show up at the same small cottage. And then there is the matter of a most inconvenient murder...with Meg's dad as the prime suspect!

Light cozy. I liked her first book better, but this was okay. A bit zany at times, mystery was not too complex. Gives you a new impression of bird watchers and hurricanes. Enjoyable quick read. I would have liked more informatin on puffins though.

I really enjoyed Andrews' first book in this series, "Murder with Peacocks", so I was eager to read this. I have to say I was disappointed. Meg and Michael spend most of the book walking around the tiny Maine island on which they've been isolated by a hurricane, along with dozens of birders and a half-dozen of Meg's relatives. This isn't a substitute for the interesting and convoluted plot of "Peacocks". I hope book #3 is better.

This is the second book in the Meg Langslow series.

In this book, Meg and new beau, Michael, head off to a small island off the Maine coast for a little romantic time alone. However, after having gotten there, they find a hurricane approaching, with no way off the island. They also find many of Meg's relatives already visiting Aunt Phoebe's cabin. They try to find another place to stay, but all the rooms are taken by the flocks of bird-watching tourists who have also been stranded on the island. There are many mishaps that occur during their time while on the island, one of which is Meg's Dad and Aunt Phoebe being lost out in the wilds while the hurricane is going on. Also during this time, the mean-spirited, much despised, local resident artist is murdered. Meg's dad is suspect number one, so Meg knows that she and Michael must find out who the real killer is before the ferry starts running again, bringing in the authorities.

I enjoyed this book just as much as the first one, and will continue with the rest of the series. One to number three!

The second book in the series, just as well written as the first book with great characterizations. This book allows for time passing but still keeps the flow going.

Reading for my local book group.

Meg has returned to her hometown for a chaos filled extended stay. Shes a bridesmaid for three weddings with three demanding brides and has her hands full with their ridiculous expectations. Its the same old town, with the same uninteresting men, save for Michael, who is rumored to prefer men. Not only is he gorgeous but hes intelligent and friendly and they become fast friends. Meg does her damndest to banish all lusty thoughts when theyre together but the mere sight of him makes it difficult.

When a woman disliked by everyone turns up dead Meg, her oddball dad and Michael start a sleuthing. Cute and fluffy is this book. I couldnt figure out why Meg wouldn't say no to her annoying brides (ok, one was her mother but STILL). All of her tasks seemed to keep her in close proximity to cutie Michael who couldn't seem to get a word out without interruptions. I've read many a book with romance-interruptis but this one took it to unheard of heights.

Tame and cute and light-hearted fun but for me it just wasnt enough. Id liken it to being allowed a mini cupcake when youre craving a whole damn cake. I wanted more action, more romance, more sexual tension (at the very least!), more laughs, more time with offbeat Dad, WAY more sexy Michael and more grisly deaths. Instead I read page after page of snore inducing wedding info. Dress selection, card writing, color choices, tracking down freaking peacocks for a wedding . . . Its all here. It all became a little tedious after the first few chapters and took me ages to finish. Guess this type of book just isnt for me. I hear they get better as the series goes along, and I'm supposed to read the entire series for my book group, but I dont know if I have the patience to bother.

From the back cover: A romantic getaway was what Meg Langslow had in mind when she and her boyfriend planned a trip to the tiny island of Monhegan off the coast of Maine. They would spend their days hiking the trails and their evenings by the fire. But in this remote place, birds of a feather flock together and Meg quickly learns that this vacation isn't going to go as planned. Although the puffins have already flown south for the winter, the island still harbors a flock of birdwatchers--and Meg's family...

Discovering her parents, her brother, her aunt, and a nosey neighbor on the island is Meg's first surprise. Her second one comes when a body is found and her father is accused of murder. Now, instead of quiet walks by the water, Meg finds herself scouring the island for clues. In the process, she uncovers more than she bargained for. Meg's only hope for finding the killer now rests on a wing and a prayer...
