This was a thorough treatise on a singular event, the poisoning of a very well-known jurist (one knowledgeable about law--Wythe was a judge and law professor who mentored Jefferson) by his nephew. I was interested in the story after touring Wythe's house in Williamsburg. While it really gave me more information than I ever wanted, from the reputations of the defending attorney's to the state of gambling in the Virginia to the situation of blacks in Richmond, much of this information was new and fascinating--I never knew that George Washington was an addicted gambler--they don't tell you that in history books!
