Mary C. Jane wrote a lot of children's mystery books. This one is about a boy named Adam and his friend, Prue who find adventure when they are least expecting it. It starts out with their teacher confiscating an exciting murder mystery book from Adam and then telling the class to pay attention that weekend to the things they do that are the most adventurous and write about that come Monday morning. Prue discovers that someone left a bouquet of red carnations at the gravesite of an anonymous man. Who could it be?
