This novel blends romance, class conflict and familial betrayel, within a Middle-Eastern setting. The author gives us a wonderful "look" into the Egyptian culture, by interwining a family's fate with Egypt's envolvement in the Suez crisis and the 1973 war over the Sinai. A compelling tale!

An interesting note-- This book was dedicated to the memory of the author's nephew, Dodi al Fayed.

Follows two families through their lifetimes and the love and tragedy that keeps them connected. The background is Egypt with its culture and customs from WWII through the late 1980's. Forbidden love, tragedy, personal achievement and mystery all involve the characters, with some very surprising twists. Very good reading.

This is a very good novel written about a character whose mother borne her out of
wedlock. The images of Africa and other places bring to mind vivid accounts of what
happened in the past.
