I had a hard time deciding what to rate this book. I have come up with 3.5 stars. The book was incredibly well researched and had great scriptural background. I love that about it. John Piper is certainly a wonderful God-fearing man who has a heart for missions. I definitely think that people interested in going into missions should read this book. I have read a bunch of books about the church and missions and this one is probably one of the best, simply because it doesn't make it all cookie-cutter-like. This book explains that in order to follow Jesus in the mission field, you need to be understanding that you will suffer. A lot of people enter in thinking it is going to be great and that they will be completely protected from harm simply because they are following in the obedience of Jesus. Mr. Piper doesn't give that outlook at all and gives great examples on top of it. Throughout the book he gives a history. The only reason why I have not rated this higher is because it didn't suck me in and had a lot of dry matter. It was very good though.
