I'm really excited because there's SO much talk about this here... but that's largely because I live in Chicago, and in a queer specific neighborhood haha. I haven't decided if I'm going to go... In one sense I think it's so wonderful that so many people are coming together all across the country to protest this... it really is going to make an impact. On the other hand, the last few protests I've been to have been filled with so much anger and hate, and it really has just disgusted me. There is such a huge queer community here that sometimes I think protests surrounding the issues do more harm than good... the last thing I went to was in October, it was the Matthew Shephard March, kind of rallying and marching against hate crimes and homophobia... but there was a large queer radical/anarchist group there that had a huge voice in the march... the screamed things like "F*** the police" and "Die Yuppie Scum." They also vandalized an automobile. I went to that march to speak out against hate and violence and left the protest feeling ashamed that I was in a march that portrayed the same things we were fighting against. Similar things have happened around here because protests aren't centrally organized and everyone comes with their own agendas. I think I might just sit back and watch from the sidelines, but I'm conflicted because the Prop 8 issue is something that hurts me so much.
Sorry for such a long rant haha. |

I heard on the radio station I listen to that some of US already were doing things last sunday in Churches. They are warning other churches to beware this might happen to you. Not well planned and not anything I would be involved in. |
