Hello, all, I was hoping that someone might have some info on Neal Stephenson's newest book. Here, the title is showing as "ReadMe", but other places are insisting that is a typo and the title is actually "Reamde".

ReadMe at PBS.

Reamde at HarperCollins.

I don't really care what the title is, but I'd love to know a little something about the book. The only info I have found is that the book may be a "thriller" and it's another chunkster at 960 pages. I'm sure I will buy the book regardless of its subject, but I'd love a little hint while I wait on the release date. BTW - I'm first in the WL line...if you move quickly, you can be right behind me...

Does anyone know more? Or have much better google skills??? :-)

Okay, I questioned a bit too soon...just found the following...

The highly inventive, brilliant author of Snow Crash, Cryptonomicon, and Anathem returns returns with his most accessible novel to date, a high-stakes thriller in which a wealthy tech entrepreneur gets caught in the very real crossfire of his own online fantasy war game

The above quote is located here

It's more info than I had, but not much! ;-)

Harper originally posted that the title was "Readme" (see "Readme" in the URL), then changed it to "Reamde", so my money's on "Reamde".

But, we've got 6 months to publication, so it could become anything by then. devil

It is coming out under William Morrow, a HC imprint, and is currently available for pre-order from the usual sources.  I can't believe there's nothing else out there, but I sure can't find anything.  His website doesn't even discuss his previous project, The Mongoliad, let alone this one.

I've sent William Morrow a note asking for info; if they bother to reply, I'll post with more info.

Oh, yes, Elizabeth, please do let me know if they reply to your query! Good idea! I am definitely behind on my Neal Stephenson books...I haven't even heard of "The Mongoliad"! It doesn't look like his website is updated that often. I looked for a blog, hoping to find more complete and recent info, but no such luck. It looks like he's one of the authors with no blog, facebook, twitter...Normally, I don't care about that stuff because I don't have any of it either, but, right now, I want info, darn it! :-)

I definitely think you are right on the title being "Reamde". I guess they saw that weird word and thought it MUST be a typo, lol. The title here will change when it is updated at whatever database we use, right? It usually works like that.

I am also surprised that there is so little information out there about this book. Really, 6 months is not that long; you'd think they'd want as much info out there about his newest book as they could possibly get.

I didn't know you enjoyed Stephenson, but I guess we have never discussed him in the H/F forum, huh? I don't know why because I think many H/F lovers would enjoy his work, especially his Baroque Cycle. Those are my favorites so far. I haven't yet read his book, "The Diamond Age" though and I have heard that it is very good. Which is your fav?
