Written in 1997, on the key issue of whether the Neanderthals were also our ancestors, the book whiffs, stating that Neanderthals and "modern humans" never interbred. Of course, DNA evidence shows otherwise, that most of us have about 3 percent Neanderthal genes. In my mind, that means they aren't even extinct.
