This is a study of occupational mobility, 1910-1950 (Washington, D.C. only), with the field work done in 1950. There are numerous tables and n=300. "When we examine the generational picture and compute the amount of occupational inheritance which has occurred during the course of three generations, we find that the paternal grandfathers of our respondents were mainly agricultural workers, independent farmers for the most part, the father a professional worker, and the son a professional worker." Over two thirds of the latest generation take up a profession. Endnotes, bibliography, and index.
