Connolly This work advances a theory of poetic forms in the six modes of poetry: lyric, narrative, dramatic, expository, descriptive, and argumentative. The theory is based on a combination of Aristotle's four-part method of describing classical tragedy, and part of Joyce's aesthetic theory.
