stocking up on Forever Stamps? The clerk in my PO told me that the postage is going to be going up every May for the foreseeable future, so I figured I might as well get 'em at .41. Tell me I'm not alone. LOL Last Edited on: 3/13/08 9:10 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

I am a clerk and you are not alone. Many people are stocking up. The price of stamps is now linked to the inflation. It will be evaluated each year and then adjusted. I am not stocking up myself. I think I can find a better investment for my money. It will be interesting to see how it works out. I was surprised that the forever stamp price did not increase at the time of the announcement though. |

I still have leftover rolls with $0.33 stamps, so I vowed not to buy rolls again. But I will now. Not this week -- next week maybe. It's a hit to buy them now. :-) |

My PO is out of Forever stamps. I was seriously considering buying my Christmas card stamps now but it'd only save me about $2 on postage overall so no big deal that they're out. |

The forever stamps are not available in a roll. The come in a book of twenty only. Sarah - maybe your PO will get them before the change goes into effect on May 12th. You can order online but they charge a dollar handling fee to your order. If you want, I could get some for you and mail them to you for just the cost of the stamps. |

I've been buying five books a week. I figure that I'll use it fairly quickly anyway. Dont worry, you're not a nerd. My boss gave me some leftover 2 cent stamps today and it just made my day! |

You're not alone. :) |

I so do that too! It doesn't make sense to buy any other type of stamp!!!! |

DH has been buying Forever Stamps whenever he goes to the PO for me. :D |

I don't think it makes any sense to buy them. A one cent increase means stamps have gotten about 2% more expensive in the space of a year. But with US inflation around 4%, that means stamps have actually gotten cheaper. In fact, stamp price increases have been below inflation rates for decades, so in the long run, you're actually losing money buying Forever Stamps. |

I'd be using up those .33 stamps on the books I mail out. I keep a bunch of various denominations on hand so I only have to use the printed postage on my over 13oz packages. |

I am a nerd as well! :) |

if it was me i would be using the .33 cents! I just finished off a roll of post card .24 cent stamps - it works if you are 2 days away from pay day and you need a book to go out LOL !

True accounting nerds know that it's not a wise investment, actually... :) See the inflation post above this... my husband and I actually had a discussion about this earlier this week... LOL Last Edited on: 3/29/08 2:15 AM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

candieb, that's what I've heard! I read an article about how basically because of the way the post office rates are regulated, the forever stamps won't really save you any money. It's just complicated enough for me not to be able to explain it though. I don't stock up on stamps ever, because whenever I do, I invariably loose the stamps and have to buy more! No matter what, it always happens. I'm still unearthing stamps I bought in the late 90's. |
