www.associatedcontent.com/article/1171790/adventures_of_a_hurricane_disaster.html

I am an operating room nurse and I usually work in the Operating room. I have never written anything to try and have it published. I just got word that it is published now. So, if you are interested in seeing what I did taht was different from what I usually do, please read my article. I went to San Antonio, TX to take care of evacuee victims of hurricane IKE, the story tells about it. There are about 5 short pages and a picture of me so you can see what I look like. Please send me any comments if you have any suggestions about my writing. I am not really a "writer" per se. I love to write, however, I know my grammar isn't always the best and I am a little wordy. But, for my first piece, I am proud of it. Thanks, Sandra Kidd, or "4nsicnurs"  Have a great day.

Grammar has to be really bad for me to notice. It was a little wordy here and there...like you said the large patients were a challange and then a line later you said they were difficult. Only one was necessary. If you wait a period of time and re-read your work, you would have noticed it. Other than that, it was really good. You have a knack, especially if you have had no formal education. My sister is a nurse. I don't know how you people do it. Good Luck

I have a friend who has a degree in education and he has two other degrees besides that and he said he would edit it for me. Not sure what it will be like afterwards. But, if he helps me with the gramatical part of it, perhaps I could try to send it someplace else. It is just fun to know I am out there where others can see what I do. I like to write but have never been able to take the time to really learn how to do it. I just have an imagination that feels like it needs some kind of outlet. I have always wanted to take some formal writing classes but never seem to be able to either find the time or have the incentive. Not sure what is holding me back. But, at least I have something that depicts a part of my job and a little about who I am. Thanks for responding. Sandra

Sandra K: I have a few ideas for sci-fi short stories and have sketched them out in past. I now have time to really write them but I don't know the way it should look when I send it to publisher. Also how did you find a publisher. thanks Randy B

Here is a nice demonstration of short story formatting:  http://www.shunn.net/format/story.html

Writers Market lists most publications along with thier guidelines.  Good luck!
