Born in 1942 in Sundi-Lutete, Congo, Ernest Wamba dia Wamba is a graduate of Western Michigan University and Claremont Graduate School. He has taught in the department of history at the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania where he is now an associate professor. He was arrested in 1981 by the Mobutu regime while visiting his parents in Congo and was confined for a year. He was also an active participant in the Sovereign National Conference that sought to establish a framework for democracy in Congo. A widely published author, Wamba dia Wamba is considered one of the most prolific and important theoreticians of African liberation since Amilcar Cabral. Divided into two parts, this book contains documents from the RCD including its political program and positions on the removal of Kabila, foreign troops, the progress of the war, and national reconciliation in Part One. Part Two includes the essays written by Ernest Wamba Dia Wamba over the past twenty years. They chronicle the recent history of Congo-Zaire and the dynamics of its long struggle for liberation.« less
