Does anyone know the actual cost of media mail now that prices has gone down? Or has it stayed the same?

Media Mail went down.

$2.61 for 1 lb, down from $2.72.

$3.09 for 2 lbs, down from $3.22.

$3.57 for 3 lbs, down from $3.72

Looks like it's 48 cents per each additional pound of weight.

(Unfortunately, the first class package rates stayed the same, no change.)

This drives me insane. It's a penny more than a first class stamp. I buy APC stamps for the base media mail rate, and prior to the last increase, I could add 1 forever stamp to make up the difference between the 1 lb and 2 lb media mail rate. But as of the last increase, and continuing with the recent decrease, the price difference is 1 forever stamp plus once cent. Argh. I went to buy penny stamps at the PO and they looked at me like I was crazy and finally dug out what they thought was the last 6 they had. So now I buy penny stamps at the APC when I buy base rate stamps (because you can't just buy the penny stamps because they don't meet the minimum transaction amount). Gah.

If you would start a paypal account (free) and buy a postage label (free) for the amount you need. 2.61; 3.09; etc you can give the package to your mail carrier and never go to the p o at all. and an added bonus is the e-mail sent to you by paypal which has the tracking number in the e-mail and can be searched at any time to see where the package is. It's sort of a 21st century way to do business.

I buy penny stamps every year when postal rates have gone up (I write a lot of postcards). Our local POs always have lots of them!

I've never gotten a funny look when asking for penny stamps or 3 cent ones, etc.  I was surprised to hear that postage was going down!  Seems it always goes up and not down.  I read about the two cent decrease in the paper and of course wondered if media mail would decrease.

Another solution is to buy $2.62 from the APC machines, instead of $2.61, and use these for the regular 1lb packages, then just add a forever stamp for the next pound. So, you are actually overpaying by 1c for the under 1lb packages, but, seems less hassle than having to buy penny stamps.

pretty sure USPS doesn't have a preoblem if you put too much postage on a package LOL

First Class Packages 0-3 ounces went down from 2.54 to 2.45. Might save a few cents on some very small books! :)
