I'm a brand-new member and I have searched this site for rules as far as what is considered acceptable condition and can't seem to find them. Are worn books acceptable, such as slightly bent pages, not perfect binding, or does it have to be like-new condition to be traded? |

Hi Lisa I am a newbie also, so you are not alone in wondering what to do in some things. The Help Center has a help doc section that answers lots of questions, and there is a tips for newbies (not sure of the title but its in red) that gives a lot of helpful information. It is worth reading all the pages. I used the search engine a lot also, and reading titles of thread to help me find answers to the many questions I have had and will be having. The people here have been great to answer my questions also, so if you aren't sure, I am sure they will fill in the blanks for you. Janette |

Hi all, I have a question I haven't seen addressed. I get most of my books used and some have price stickers on them (generally like this: http://www.staples.com/Avery-Print-or-Write-Assorted-File-Folder-Labels-252-Pack/product_298414). I try to get them and any sticky residue off, but some of them just weren't meant to be put on books. I'm wondering if they're postable with the stickers on; they are otherwise in great condition. And what's worse, leaving the sticker intact or getting them half off? I personally wouldn't be terribly pleased to receive a book with stickers/remains of stickers on them, but I'm pickier about book condition than I think many people are. Any advice? |

Danyun - price stickes are perfectly fine. I usually don't even bother trying to take them off because that can damage the book. IMO, if the next person can't deal with the sticker they can take it off themselves. |

Hi Danyun-- I agree with Melanie that unless you can get them off cleanly, it's better to leave the stickers on and let the recipient deal with them. Personally, I dislike stickers on books (or other things) so much that I'm usually willing to use a little baby oil to get the sticker residue off, or even Goo Gone if it's a tough one. But that's my own call for a book that I'm keeping, not sending. The thicker and slicker the cover, the more likely you can get all the residue off with oil or Goo Gone. I'm sure there are members who use their Requester Conditions to ward off stickered books, but if there's no RC to that effect then stickers are fine. I don't mind getting a book with stickers, but I've been frustrated by a few that were hard to remove. I'm most upset when I can only do half the job so these days I just leave them on if they don't peel right off. |

Another sticker leaver onner here. I won't buy books at Target anymore because I hate that big red sticker they put on them. Same with Walmart and that huge price sticker they put on the front cover. Although those usually come off when I try. |

The only stickers I don't really want on my books are when someone puts a HUGE Bookcrossing sticker across the entire front of the book. Fortunately, I only received one of those, and then had to put it in my RC that I don't want Bookcrossing books. However, that led to someone denying my request because they didn't know what a Bookcrossing book was. So, in turn, I put a link to their site in my RC's. Welcome Lisa! It's good to see someone who is concerned about the condition of books they want to swap. |
