Book rec'd today (Angel of Darkness) but with multiple types of damage.
1.  gnaw marks on edge of back cover (maybe a pet gerbil??)
2.  stain from a coffee (?) cup on back cover making a partial arc in dark brown
3.  black stain on page edges almost 2 inches long on last 130 pages of book
4. tear in cover on spine at top of front 3/4 inch long

I've only been in the club a few months, but any one of these seems to fit the "unpostable" description.  I had previous contact with this member and added her as a buddy after  I sent her a "like new" book (Pillars of the Earth) that I rec'd for Christmas, read once, and posted.

Obviously, I won't be able to post this after reading it!

Sorry that happened to you.  I hope that you marked with Received With a Problem, as any of those issues alone would make the book unpostable.  You may also want to request a refund of your credit, since you will not be able to repost the book.  Just because someone is a buddy does not mean that they can send you unpostable books.  Good luck.

Hi Jeanne,

A few comments on the issues with your book,

1. Many books that are placed in a purse can get "dents" etc from things like keys pressing against them. Sometimes it is hard to tell "gnawing" from just wear and tear. I put books in my purse all the time and sometimes they do look like they might have been chewed, except I KNOW they haven't. Unless they are unmistakably teeth marks, I would think this is probably just due to some other issue, and unless the damage is extensize, its probably postable.

2. You are right, this one thing makes the book unpostable.

3. Black stain on page edges --  If it is dirt or a dirt or liquid stain, it is unpostable. If it is marker, pen, pencil or a bookstore or library stamp, it is postable (as long as it doesn't bleed into pages).

4. Postable. Rips to the cover under 1 inch are allowed.

I hate getting nasty books too, and it does sound like this one is unpostable, due to the coffee ring on the cover. Did you mark it "received with a problem" and ask for your credit back?

Jeanne:  You should mark it received with a problem and there is a spot to add what is wrong with the book.  Make sure describe the damage, ask for your credit back and ask to respond to your message.    I hope your future swaps go better.

Thanks for the comments, I have marked it rec'd with a problem and in the comment section, described the 4 issues I had. Then per PBS help listings, I PM'd the sender with the same info. Awaiting response.  :)

Jeanne - the member receives a copy of those comments and you should send messages using the PM in the transaction archive so that all  correspondence is attached to the swap.  Good Luck.
