I just signed up for this site the other day. So far I really like it. I love books and reading. It is my only peace during a days time. I am wanting to meet other people like me and share some of the same book interests that I do. I have no friends on here but would love to have some. I like paranormal romance, vampire novels, witches, kids books (have to read them to my kids everynight so I am always looking for new ones), and a good love story that over comes all odds. But in all the paranormal romance novels are my favorite . If you have any suggestions for books I would love to hear them..  It is nice to meet all of you

Welcome aboard, Whitney!  You might meet up with other local members through a Local Chapter Leader -- check out the Local Book Club Chapters section of the fourms.

Welcome, Whitney! You are going to love it here. If you scroll down the list of discussion groups you will see seperaste ones for Children's Books, Young Adult and Paranormal. The individual genre threads aren't as popular as the CMT (Club Members' Thoughts) forum, but they are the place to go to talk about specific books.  If you are looking to just chat about nothing in particluar then I suggest the CMT as a start just to get to know some other book lovers.

Well thank you both for the suggestions. I will have to look into it to. Is is hard for books to go on here. I have so many that I want to get rid of... I am running out of room on my shelves to put them.

Some books fly off of shelves and others can take eons to move. I have found that paranormal titles move quick but young adult titles are slow. One thing I do is when I post a book to my bookshelf I also put it on my Reminder List, which will show you how many books are currently in the system.  Sometimes, that can be helpful to see how long you will likely need to hold onto it before it will move.  For instance, if you had a John Grisham on your shelf and there are 2,000 other copies already in the system I would say donate it and stop wasting your limited space.

Also, take this as fair warning: one of the wonders of PBS membership is that most people end up with more books than they started with.

Well I don't mind owning a lot of books if I will reread them. The problem is though that if I don't get really interested in the book right from the beginning then I will not finish it. Since I have gotten into the paranormal romance books I really don't read anything else...I was trying not to build up books so I bought a nook. I love it but there are limits to it that I did not think about when I got it.  For one, I love sitting in the tub and reading well.... that is not a good thing with the nook. That is really the only quiet time since I have four little kids that are always asking for something. The other thing with it though is that the battery life is horrible on it for as much as I read.

Hi Whitney:

Reading does bring peace, doesn't it?  I think that is why I enjoy cozies the best!  Welcome to the site, I have some romance novels, and some kids, I love to read to my grandson, and really enjoy many illustrators of childrens books.  I collect the old Golden Books too.  I hope you can make a lot of friends here!

Whitney, what a great name!!!  You might want to check out the games area, there are always paranormal games going on and you will get lots of great book suggestions there.

Check out the Book Bazaar too -- many members offer deals to get rid of books on their shelves.

Whitney, I have a Kindle and I also love reading in the tub.  So I bought a waterproof cover for it.  It's really nothing more than a glorified double ziplock bag, but it's made of much heavier plastic and it works great.  It's also great for when I want to bring my Kindle to the beach.  No sand getting in it.  The waterproof cover was only $15 from Amazon and worth so much more to me.

I think that they have those for the nooks. They only thing that I really like about the actual books though is that I am not depending on battery life.. I read so much that it kills my battery all of the time and I am not anywhere that I can charge it all of the time. I am always riding in the car with my husband to job. We own a mobile computer company so we are in the car a lot. Most of the time more than I would like to be. So I go through books so quickly.

Welcome Whitney!  While I don't think we have similar reading styles I have kids that I read to each night so we still might have something in common smiley  What are the ages of your kids?  I  have 2 boys ages 7 and 9.  My oldest is having trouble with reading comprehension so I am always looking for new books to spark interest.  They love to be read to but I have a hard time getting them to pick up a book on their own.

Whitney, do you have the first generation Nook, or the new Nook Touch?  The Nook Touch battery is so much longer that it might be worth buying just for that.

Hi Whitney

I have no kids but am an avid reader and most books I read are paranormal. I adore series books and read several that are into double digit books now. i will try almost every topic at least once. i also enjoy mystery, science fiction, science, and history novels.

I really like the paranormal romance stuff and I am willing to try any book at least once. My kids are 6,5,4,3. the baby is my only boy and all the rest are girls. I have the nook color. The battery lasts about 3 hours or so. So I have been reading regular books because I am in the car and do not have a way to charge it all of the time. work keeps me busy.
